Our pedagogy
Our roots are enriched by German pedagogy, allowing knowledge to flourish like a majestic baobab tree, protective and caring.
German pedagogy
Bousso’s Baobab is a preschool offering bilingual curricula (French/English or French/German). Whichever curriculum you choose, the pedagogical approach is based on the German education system.
The German education system is based on the principle of knowledge acquisition linked to personal development, the Bildungssystem.
Bildung is the combination of education and knowledge to thrive in our society, and moral and emotional maturity at the same time, to be a team player while preserving personal autonomy. Bildung also means knowing your roots and being able to imagine the future.
The key concept of this pedagogy, in preschool, is to provide a creative space where children can discover their environment through Freispiel (“free play”). Children are free to choose the activity they want to do. Educators supervise the children, but no activity is imposed. The underlying idea is to enable children to develop their individual abilities, become part of a group community and strengthen their self-confidence, tolerance and respect for others.
An exception: the Kindergarten class
The Kindergarten class operates a hybrid program: free play is the main focus, but part of the day is dedicated to guided activities linked to the Kindergarten program.
At the end of their curriculum, Bousso’s Baobab students will be prepared to enter a “CP”, a first grade or a “C.I”.

BAOBAB pedagogy
Every Baobab looks different, yet they have the same autonomy underneath that striking trunk. The bizarre looking tree has enormous roots and funny shaped branches. It looks strong, yet the wood is fibrous and therefore of no use to be chopped. The fruit of the Baobab is of enormous value and rich in vitamins. The fruit can be used as anti-inflammatory medicine. Baobab’s fruit is processed in different ways.
The tree stores water so that the fruit can blossom even in extreme heat and long periods of dryness.
Another important characteristic is the symbol of protection. The hole in the gigantic trunk serves as a cave for refuge and protection in severe weather conditions.
Bousso chose the Baobab as a representation of her pedagogy because its components and characteristics draw many parallels to the human being in their wholeness.
Every person has a diverse mix of capabilities, abilities and strengths behind an appearance that leads to first impressions. It’s of great necessity to learn about the features and get to know the inside of a person to help and support in the best way possible.
